i attended sunday service,as usual. today's topic was on materialism.i believe obsession of any form is harmful, not only tangible things. obession with clothes, obession with technology, even obsession with God. You might think its impossible to be obsessed with God,but i do know of people who are crazy over Him.somehow it feels as though they are being possessed in a negative way,its pretty creepy. in admist of the sermon, i was thinking if i fall into the catergory of being materialistic, who and what is a bench mark of materialism? i am definitely not the type who cant survive or have withdrawal symptons of not shopping for a week, i definitely have better things to do like work out or spent a day at home instead.
i love to look good, who dont? its juts like denying that money is not important when duh,it is important! but it becomes harmful if we neglect those around us when trying to attain selfless things. example, angering our parents for wasting their cash. Many of us still do rely on our parents for livelihood. Some parents love their children so much that they give them what they want despite against their values. It becomes over-pampering.they are afraid to say 'no' to their children fear of making them feel sad or neglected. i really dont know if i should applaud them for their sacrifices or pull their hairs out for spoiling their kids. i loathe pampered kids, really.but cant really blame them either as it's usually due to upbringing and pervasive influences around us.
are we really able to conquer the evil in us and around us? Do we have the mental strength to say 'NO'?
good bye.
